Due to the year around comfortable temperature, it makes a great idea for church groups, and school groups.



  • During the 2015 season, this state park was given one of the best ranked parks across the United States. It is also the site that has been used in the movies before it became a state park in 2000.


  • The six world records include: the largest known stalagmite in the world; the largest stalagmite forrest; largest flow stone wall; largest improbable formation of a stalagmite; and the worlds widest entrance.


  • The Native Americans used this cave throughout the centuries.


  • During the Civil War, a family called this home after their farm house burned.



The cave can be toured throughout the year. The tour will take about 90 minutes. The park is closed on Thanksgiving; Christmas; & New Years. The cave can not be taken without a tour guide. There are no private excursions through the cave.


One of the activities at the cave will be finding gemstones. It has been a fun activity for all ages while at the cave.

Primitive Camping: Very rustic, and parking is over 3/4 of a mile. There are electric and water hookups. There are no minimum stays, or reservations manditory.

Picnicing: There are a couple of large pavilions located in the park.

WELCOME CENTER: For your convenience, there is an information center in the park. You can contact the park for any questions that you may have. Alabama is known for the state parks.
