Small Town America You Must Visit

A journey across the Appalachian foothills will offer a twist of small town USA, southern hospitality,  and off the beaten path attractions. To the international traveler, the sights and sounds of being here are just as exciting for them as any U.S. vacationer traveling to other continents.

From the interstate, each mile looks almost the same with the nearest exits advertising food, lodging, gas, and an assortment of other amenities. However, cookie cutter travel experiences have their place, but there is something special about the unique experience to meander off the interstate onto the backroads. There are over 40 very unique small towns that are a must stop across the Appalachian foothills.

Visit great food, antiques, and unique shops around the historic districts of Dallas and Hiram.

Meander along Georgia’s historic Peacock Alley to discover Cartersville, Adairsville,  Calhoun, Dalton and Ringgold.

Explore the Martha Berry Highway. Dine in Rome. Browse the shops in Carrollton and Villa Rica.  While there, visit the Pine Mountain  Gold Museum.  Attend a concert at the Milltown Music Hall in Bremen. Take a side trip to Tallapoosa. Visit the new Coca Cola Museum in Cedartown. Nearby, Rockmart offers more great shops and local eats.

Take a trip along the Lookout Mountain Parkway. The northern end begins in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Enjoy the views while travelling into Georgia. Once in Alabama, buy a huge banana split at the ice cream shop while exploring the Village Shops in Mentone.  Dine in Fort Payne at the Strand, or begin your journey at the Southern Gateway to the Lookout Mountain Parkway in Gadsden. Shop in Gadsden’s Historic District. Remember to visit Noccalula Falls before leaving.

These are only a few of the highlights of the region. Discover small town USA this year. You will find really cool shops, unique local flavor, and museums you must visit. Attend symphonies, concerts, and plays to keep the rhythm flowing. Set your calendars for some of the best annual events.  Each town offers more opportunities than we can mention here.
